Chelsea signs Argentina international Valentin Barco from Strasbourg

Chelsea FC confirmed the signing of 22‑year‑old Argentine left‑back/mid‑fielder Valentin Barco on a seven‑year contract that runs to 2033. The player arrives from sister club RC Strasbourg, both owned by the BlueCo consortium, after a season in Ligue 1 where he made 58 appearances, scored three goals and provided nine assists and helped the French side reach the Europa Conference League semi‑finals.

Barco began his career at Boca Juniors, moved to Brighton & Hove Albion in 2024, and spent brief loan spells at Sevilla before joining Strasbourg permanently. He was part of Argentina’s 2026 World Cup squad, featuring in a 19‑minute cameo against Jordan and later becoming known for a heated exchange with England’s Jude Bellingham after the semi‑final.

The transfer, announced by Chelsea’s official channels with a video presentation, did not disclose the fee but media reports suggest a figure around €40 million, facilitated by the shared ownership of the two clubs. Barco becomes the seventh summer signing under new manager Xabi Alonso as the Blues rebuild their squad ahead of the 2026‑27 Premier League campaign and will join the pre‑season tour in Australia and Hong Kong.
