Valentin Vacherot eliminated in first round of ATP Chengdu 250

Valentin Vacherot was eliminated in the first round of the ATP 250 tournament in Chengdu, China. Entering the tournament as the number 1 seed, the Monégasque player faced South Africa’s Lloyd Harris.

Following a historic contribution to Monaco’s qualification for the Davis Cup World Group, Vacherot struggled to maintain momentum. After receiving a first-round bye, he lost a closely contested match decided by a second-set tiebreaker, which Harris won 7-5.

Harris advances to face the number 5 seed, Hubert Hurkacz, in the quarterfinals. Vacherot will now look to defend his ranking at the Shanghai Masters 1000 starting October 6.
