Valeria Amparán secures qualification for Lima 2027 Pan American Games

Mexican boxer Valeria Amparán has secured a spot at the Lima 2027 Pan American Games following her performance at the 2026 Pan American Elite Boxing Championship in Puebla. Competing in the under 51 kg category, Amparán advanced to the semifinals after defeating Argentina’s Tatiana Flores.

Amparán, a former Central American gold medalist, noted the difficulty of the match against a highly experienced opponent but credited her technical progress and training for the victory.

Earlier in the tournament, Amparán advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Esther Jiménez of the Dominican Republic via split decision. In the men's division, Santiago Montalvo (60 kg) progressed via walkover after his opponent from Barbados failed to meet the required weight. Other Mexican competitors, including Paula Hernández and José González, faced losses against Brazilian opponents during the competition.
