Valeria Cruz calls for professionalization of social work in Mexico City
Valeria Cruz Flores, President of the Health Commission of the Mexico City Congress, called for the increased visibility and professionalization of social workers during the Second International and Interinstitutional Congress of Social Work. The event, held at the Centro Médico Nacional ‘20 de Noviembre’, aims to strengthen institutional policies to ensure social workers have appropriate recognition and voice within public institutions.
Cruz Flores emphasized that social work is a strategic profession for transforming public health institutions, helping to combat inequality, poverty, and barriers to healthcare access. The congress is organized by several entities, including the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), the National System for Integral Family Development (DIF), and the Mexican College of Professionals in Social Work in the Area of Health and Well-being (COTSSBAC).
