Valeria Márquez murder linked to Jalisco cartel leader’s son
Mexican influencer Valeria Márquez, 23, was shot dead while broadcasting live on TikTok on 13 May 2025 inside her beauty salon in Zapopan, Jalisco. The gunman entered the premises posing as a delivery person and opened fire, killing her in front of thousands of online viewers.
Authorities in Jalisco have detained Ivan Martín, identified as a participant in the attack, and have placed the son of Ramón Álvarez Ayala – alias “El R1”, a leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) – as the alleged mastermind, who remains at large. In a related operation, the cartel leader Ramón Ángel Álvarez Ayalá was taken into custody. Police also seized firearms, mobile phones and other evidence from the salon.
The case has drawn widespread attention due to the live‑streamed nature of the killing and the involvement of a major drug cartel.
