Valerio Bispuri photography exhibition in Pisa explores abandoned childhood
The photography exhibition ‘Orfani’ by Valerio Bispuri is currently hosted at Palazzo Toniolo in Pisa, running until November 15, 2026. The collection features 33 photographs documenting the lives of children and adolescents facing abandonment, poverty, and violence across four different countries: Pakistan, Belarus, Argentina, and Zambia.
The project, which was a finalist for the Visa d’Or at the 2024 Visa pour l’Image festival, aims to humanize the statistics surrounding global child abandonment. It highlights various realities, such as the Dar-ul-Sukoon facility in Karachi, Pakistan, and the experiences of street children in Zambia. According to data in the exhibition catalogue, approximately 140 million children worldwide have lost one or both parents, with 15 million left without either.
Promoted by the Fondazione Opera Giuseppe Toniolo, the exhibition serves as a tool for testimony and memory regarding contemporary social issues.
