Valerio Bispuri’s ‘Orfani’ exhibition opens in Pisa

The photographic project ‘Orfani’ by photojournalist Valerio Bispuri is being presented as an exhibition at Palazzo Toniolo in Pisa from October 23 to November 15. The exhibition features 33 photographs documenting abandoned children across four continents: Pakistan, Belarus, Argentina, and Zambia.

The work captures the lives of children and adolescents growing up in institutions or on the streets, often facing poverty, violence, and isolation. Specific locations documented include the Dar-ul-Sukoon facility in Karachi, Pakistan, and Begoml in Belarus. The project, which was a finalist for the Visa d’Or at the Visa pour l’Image festival in Perpignan, aims to highlight the ongoing reality of childhood abandonment and the invisibility of children living with disabilities or in extreme poverty.

The exhibition is supported by the Fondazione Opera Giuseppe Toniolo and is accompanied by a dedicated volume published by Dario Cimorelli Editore, featuring a preface by Roberto Saviano.
