Valerio De Molli discusses Italian economic stability and inflation

Valerio De Molli, Managing Partner and CEO of The European House-Ambrosetti, expressed confidence in Italy's ability to manage economic challenges despite rising inflation and energy shocks. In an interview with Adnkronos, De Molli noted that Italian entrepreneurs are highly dynamic and capable of adjusting to external developments.

Regarding monetary policy, De Molli anticipates that the European Central Bank will raise interest rates, which could lead to an economic slowdown in the coming months. He noted that the impact will depend heavily on the progression of conflicts in the Middle East and the Russo-Ukrainian war.

Addressing national debt, De Molli stated that Italy's debt-to-GDP ratio of 133-135% is not a cause for concern, highlighting that the country has successfully managed much higher levels during the pandemic. He also mentioned that Italy has moved away from the risk of an infringement procedure.

Finally, De Molli commented on the political landscape, noting that the current government's longevity provides a level of stability and continuity that is rare in Italy, where the average government duration over the last 70 years has been only 1.2 years.
