Valeska Grisebach film ‘Das geträumte Abenteuer’ hits German cinemas

The film ‘Das geträumte Abenteuer’ (The Dreamed Adventure), directed by Berlin-based filmmaker Valeska Grisebach, is scheduled for release in German cinemas on September 24. The film, which received the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, follows an archaeologist named Veska, played by Jana Radewa, working at an excavation site in the Bulgarian border town of Svilengrad.

As Veska attempts to assist an acquaintance following a car theft, she becomes entangled in a world of smuggling, corruption, and organized crime. The narrative explores themes of gender power dynamics and memories of the social upheavals of the 1990s, set against the backdrop of the border region between Bulgaria, Greece, and Turkey. Grisebach utilizes a near-documentary style and frequently employs non-professional actors to provide authenticity to the fictional story.
