Valgrande-Pajares faces infrastructure and environmental criticism
The Valgrande-Pajares ski complex in Asturias is facing significant criticism regarding both infrastructure maintenance and environmental restoration efforts. Local users have reported severe road deterioration, citing large potholes that have caused vehicle damage, including burst tires. Additionally, there are concerns regarding the safety of pedestrian crossings, which show signs of corrosion, and a lack of adequate lighting in certain areas.
Simultaneously, the Asociación Nieve y Montaña de Asturias has denounced a “grave incumplimiento” (serious breach) of environmental restoration projects. Industry representatives claim that revegetation efforts near the cable car and the Cuitu Negru cross-country track are far below the projected scope. They argue that the failure to properly cover slopes and tracks could lead to soil heating, which negatively impacts snow retention and risks contaminating the snow with aggregates during grooming operations.
