Valguarnera opposition seeks revocation of waste management plan

Opposition council members in Valguarnera have formally requested the revocation of Council Resolution no. 51 of 2026, which approved the Economic and Financial Plan (PEF) for waste management services.

The request follows an investigation into records revealing a 2021 resolution stating that the contracted company was unable to perform specific services, namely street washing and mechanized sweeping. While a 2021 agreement suggested compensating for these missing services by switching to manual sweeping using existing personnel at no extra cost to the municipality, opposition members claim these services are still being billed to citizens through the TARI waste tax.

Councilors Bruno Angelo, Filippa D’Angelo, Filippa Greco, and Vincenzo Litteri allege that the Contract Execution Director authorized payments for services that were not actually rendered. They are calling for the PEF to be re-evaluated and stripped of expenses related to unperformed services, while questioning why the contract specifications were never officially updated to reflect the change from mechanized to manual sweeping.
