Valladolid International Film Festival launches short‑film lab and unveils poster by Apichatpong Weerasethakul
The 71st edition of the Semana Internacional de Cine de Valladolid (Seminci) runs from 23 to 31 October 2024. As part of the festival, the organizers – Seminci, the Universidad Europea Miguel de Cervantes (UEMC) and Dirdira Lab – opened the second edition of La Meseta, a short‑film development laboratory. Eight projects in development will receive intensive mentorship, script and production guidance, and support for funding applications during three days of workshops from 27 to 29 October in Valladolid.
The festival’s visual identity was revealed with a poster signed by Thai filmmaker and visual artist Apichatpong Weerasethakul. The image, his 2011 photograph “Power Boy (Mekong)”, marks the first time an international director has signed the Seminci poster. The design was created by the local agency PobrelaVaca Studio. Organisers highlighted the artwork’s blend of human presence, landscape and light as reflecting the festival’s spirit.
Both initiatives aim to strengthen emerging audiovisual talent in Spain and to raise the festival’s international profile.
