Valladolid police recover stolen religious artworks
Spanish National Police have recovered three religious artworks stolen from the Santa Vera Cruz and San Pablo churches in Valladolid. The recovered items include a gilded carving of an angel with a trumpet from the late 17th century, a copy of Luis de Morales’ ‘Ecce Homo’ painting, and the seventh station of the Via Crucis titled ‘Jesus falls for the second time’.
A suspect was arrested on September 17 following a search of a residence in the Arturo Eyries neighborhood. During the search, authorities seized items believed to have been used in the thefts, such as bags for concealing art and an electric scooter. While three pieces have been returned, investigators are still searching for a 19th-century polychrome wooden carving of an angel stolen from the San Felipe Neri church.
