Valldemossa and Avilés host historical reenactments
Various Spanish municipalities are hosting historical reenactments to commemorate significant past events.
In Valldemossa, the ‘Festa de Moros i Cristians’ will recreate the 1552 pirate attack. The event honors the defense led by Captain Ramon Gual Desmur, who organized 36 men to repel approximately 400 corsairs. The festivities, which include character presentations and historical representations, aim to preserve the local memory of the raid and the subsequent fortification of the town.
In Avilés, the twelfth edition of the ‘Recreación del Alistamiento de Pedro Menéndez’ features a diverse cultural program. Highlights include an exhibition of 16th-century Renaissance dolls at the Museo de la Historia Urbana de Avilés and a traditional slingshot tournament. The weekend program also includes urban reenactments of recruitment and provisioning, a Renaissance dance festival, and a communal brotherhood meal.
