Intimidation attack destroys Italiana Gas equipment in Schiavonea, Calabria

During the night of 7 August 2026, unknown perpetrators set fire to and heavily damaged the construction equipment of Italiana Gas S.r.l. at its Schiavonea waterfront site in Corigliano‑Rossano, Calabria. The attack was described by the company’s president, ANCE Calabria chief Roberto Rugna, as “an act aimed at striking the work of an entire team and the freedom to do honest business”.

Regional President Roberto Occhiuto condemned the incident, stating that “the honest Calabria we represent repels every form of intimidation”. Trade‑union bodies CGIL and FILLEA called it “an attack on work and on the liberty of enterprise”, while ANCE and Confindustria Calabria expressed solidary support for Rugna and pledged to cooperate with law‑enforcement to bring the perpetrators to justice. The company affirmed it will continue its public‑works projects despite the damage.

The incident has prompted a coordinated response from local authorities and the police, who are investigating the crime and reinforcing security at construction sites in the region.
