Valle Caudina transport faces railway delays and new bus link plans

The Benevento-Napoli railway line via Valle Caudina faces continued delays, with recent reports suggesting the full reopening may be postponed until autumn 2027. Domenico Parisi, President of the ANCI National Commission for Local Public Transport and Mobility, expressed deep concern over the repeated rescheduling of the service, which has been interrupted since March 2021. Parisi noted that previous deadlines had shifted from 2021 to 2023, 2025, 2026, and early 2027. He also addressed the issue of copper theft along the line, stating that while it is a serious problem, it should not serve as a recurring excuse for further delays without increased security and transparency.

In response to the ongoing rail service interruption, a feasibility study has been completed for a new road transport link. AIR Campania has finalized plans for a bus service connecting Montesarchio directly to the Napoli Afragola high-speed rail station. The proposed project, supported by local leaders and community petitions, aims to provide 12 daily trips, reducing travel time to approximately 60 minutes. The initiative seeks to integrate the Valle Caudina region with national transport axes while the regional railway remains non-operational. The project now awaits funding allocation from the Campania Region.
