Valle del Carrizo Farmers Protest Mexico-15 Road Closure Over Unpaid Guarantees

Farmers in the Valle del Carrizo region near Los Mochis, Sinaloa, say the federal government has failed to publish the operational mechanism and start the registration process for the complementary payment to the guaranteed price of their harvest, a promise that was due since April. José Manuel Santos Granillo, president of Committee Municipal Campesino No. 17, reported that desperation is high and many producers are prepared to join protests this week to block the Mexico‑15 federal highway. He added that many have not even received the first payment for their crops, and they feel forced to demonstrate to be heard by the authorities.

The protesters warn that without resolution they will continue blockades until the pending payments and related procedures are settled.
