Valle del Cauca resumes school activities after earthquake

Academic activities are set to resume this Monday, August 24, in the 34 non-certified municipalities of Valle del Cauca following the earthquake on August 10. The return to classes will depend on the physical condition of each institution. Schools without damage will resume in-person instruction, while those with significant damage will transition to virtual learning or utilize temporary spaces such as churches and community centers.

According to the Departmental Secretary of Education, 691 out of 1,102 sites across 148 educational institutions have been evaluated. Of these, 34% are in critical condition and 32% show a high level of damage. To ensure continuity, the government will continue the School Feeding Program (PAE) and provide academic guides to students studying from home. Additionally, the National Ministry of Education has coordinated with CAF to redirect US$48 million toward the recovery and reconstruction of affected educational infrastructure.
