Valle Gran Rey begins Avenida Marítima reconstruction works

The Valle Gran Rey City Council has announced the start of reconstruction and protection works on the Avenida Marítima and the ravine mouth. The project follows authorization from the Canary Islands Government’s Directorate General of Coasts and Maritime Space Management.

The intervention aims to restore connections damaged by Storm Therese while improving safety and mobility. A key technical feature of the project is the construction of a multi-level crossing at the ravine mouth. This design allows water to flow beneath the vehicle and pedestrian platform through ten drainage openings, ensuring transit continuity even during predicted floods.

Local officials, including Mayor Borja Barroso and the President of the Cabildo de La Gomera, Casimiro Curbelo, emphasized that the project is the result of coordinated efforts between the local council, the Cabildo, and the regional government to address the extraordinary damage caused by the storm.
