Valledupar authorities address urban violations and tax fraud
Authorities in Valledupar are addressing significant irregularities involving urban planning and municipal finances. The local government has suspended more than 80 construction projects since June 2024 due to urban planning violations. These measures, ranging from provisional to preventive suspensions, were implemented by the Secretary of Government and the Metropolitan Police to ensure compliance with Law 1801 of 2016.
Separately, Mayor Ernesto Orozco Durán has filed a complaint with the Attorney General's Office regarding potential fraud within the municipal tax system. The investigation focuses on 3,483 manual credit adjustments made to the Unified Property Tax between 2024 and April 2026. Additionally, the Secretary of Finance, Lily Mendoza, reported alerts from banks and credit agencies concerning payments made with cloned credit cards and insufficient funds. The complaint has been filed against unknown persons to determine the scope of the potential crimes.
