Valledupar honors Consuelo Araujonoguera 25 years after her death

Valledupar is hosting a series of cultural, musical, and academic events titled ‘La Cacica Vive’ to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the death of Consuelo Araujonoguera, known as ‘La Cacica’. Araujonoguera was a central figure in the consolidation of vallenato music and the creation of the Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata.

The program, organized by the Valledupar Mayor's Office, the Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata Foundation, and the Fundación Universitaria del Área Andina, includes the opening of a museum at La Casona featuring over 50 photographs of her life. Other scheduled activities include an immersive concert at Plaza Alfonso López on September 25, a floral offering at the ‘La Pilonera Mayor’ monument, and academic discussions regarding the preservation of vallenato traditions.

Hernando César de Jesús Molina Araújo, Araujonoguera’s eldest son, noted that the commemoration serves as a prelude to the 60th edition of the Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata.
