Vallejo home raid results in seizure of 44 dogs

Solano County Sheriff’s Deputies and Animal Control officers executed a search warrant on Thursday at a residence on Carolina Street in Vallejo, seizing 44 dogs as part of an ongoing animal cruelty investigation. Officials described the property as a “hoarder house,” noting that deputies discovered animal waste inside the residence alongside dogs living in cramped quarters.

The investigation focuses on resident Susan Anthony, who operates California Carolina Dogs, a breeding and adoption business specializing in Carolina dogs, also known as American dingos. Anthony has a history of legal issues regarding animal welfare; she was found guilty of animal cruelty in Solano County Court in May and has faced previous complaints regarding “puppy mill” operations.

During the raid, Anthony claimed the dogs belong to her 99-year-old mother and that she has spent significant resources maintaining the breed. She maintained that the animals are healthy and that the raid was traumatic for them. A veterinary assessment of the seized dogs is currently pending, and the large number of animals has reportedly placed a strain on the local shelter system.
