Valley of the Temples wins international award for accessible tourism

The Valley of the Temples Archaeological Park in Agrigento has received the international ‘Accessible Tourism’ award, presented by the association Diritti Diretti aps. The site was honored in the category of ‘Welcome and enjoyment in cultural sites,’ with an expert jury describing it as a ‘global model of universal archaeological enjoyment’ due to its efforts to eliminate architectural, sensory, and cultural barriers.

Currently, 85 percent of the archaeological area is accessible. Services include free shuttle transport for visitors with disabilities and their companions, free wheelchairs and electric scooters, dedicated paths, and maps indicating difficulty levels. Accessibility features also include Braille panels along the Via Sacra, tactile models of monuments, and QR codes providing videos in sign language.

Supported by PNRR funds, the site has also implemented digital solutions such as avatars, interactive maps, smart rings, and a dedicated mobile app for the Griffo Regional Museum.
