Vallès Occidental leads Catalonia in wealth and real estate activity

Economic data highlights significant wealth and real estate trends within the Vallès Occidental region of Catalonia. According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), Matadepera and Sant Cugat del Vallès remain the wealthiest municipalities in Catalonia with populations over 2,000. Matadepera leads with a median annual income of 37,450 euros, followed by Sant Cugat at 33,950 euros. Both locations also lead in average income per consumption unit, exceeding 41,000 euros annually.

In the real estate sector, Terrassa has emerged as the municipality in Vallès Occidental with the highest volume of second-hand apartment sales. Data from the Verithic platform shows 3,580 transactions over a twelve-month period. The market in Terrassa is driven largely by price advantages compared to Barcelona; for example, a 70-square-meter apartment in Barcelona costs roughly what a 155-square-meter apartment costs in Terrassa. The average price for a second-hand home in Terrassa is 2,265 euros per square meter.

The data underscores a socioeconomic divide in the region. While Matadepera and Sant Cugat show high prosperity, municipalities such as Salt and Castelló d'Empúries report the lowest median incomes in Catalonia at 16,450 euros.
