Vallvidrera stream residents warn of flood risks and demand maintenance
Residents near the Vallvidrera stream in the La Floresta area are warning of significant flood risks and demanding urgent infrastructure maintenance following recent heavy rainfall. Local inhabitants have reported that overflowing water has washed away containers and tanks, eroded roads, and caused heavy sediment accumulation in the stream bed.
Community members have submitted formal complaints to the Sant Cugat City Council, documenting issues such as blocked culverts, broken storm drains, and unprotected road edges. They are calling for immediate inspections and preventative measures, including the cleaning of underground passages and the removal of accumulated earth and debris to prevent future overflows.
Concerns are also being raised regarding the adequacy of current flood risk maps. Experts and residents suggest that existing studies may be obsolete due to climate change, which is intensifying rainfall patterns. While a 2015 study by the Catalan Water Agency identified certain flood-prone areas for planned infrastructure projects, there are growing calls to recalculate risks to account for more frequent and intense weather events.
