Valmet to deliver 3D Fiber production line to Metsä Group

Metsä Group has selected Valmet to deliver a 3D Fiber molded fiber production line for its mill located in Äänekoski, Finland. This investment represents the world’s first commercial-scale implementation of 3D Fiber technology.

The technology is designed to meet the increasing demand for plastic alternatives by enabling high-volume, industrial-scale production of three-dimensional fiber-based packaging. The resulting products, such as trays, plates, and food containers, are intended to be lightweight, rigid, and competitive with plastic solutions.

The production line is scheduled to start up in 2028. This project follows years of co-development between Valmet and Metsä Group, which included the launch of a joint demonstration plant in 2022.
