Valmieras teātris to premiere Bertolt Brecht play
Valmieras teātris is hosting the premiere of Bertolt Brecht’s play, “Fear and Misery of the Third Reich,” directed by Indra Roga. The production marks the first new staging in the theatre's large hall for this season.
Director Indra Roga noted the play's contemporary relevance, linking its themes of populism, propaganda, and totalitarianism to modern societal mechanisms. Written by Brecht between 1935 and 1938 while he was in exile in Denmark, the play explores how fear, suspicion, and state power permeate daily life and social relationships.
The production is supported by the Boris and Ināra Tetereva Foundation, marking the 14th production supported by the fund. The creative team includes scenographer Mārtiņš Vilkārsis, costume designer Anna Heinrihsone, and composer Jēkabs Jančevskis.
