Valneva shares drop as UK revokes Ixchiq vaccine authorization

Valneva shares fell on the Paris Stock Exchange following the decision by the United Kingdom’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to revoke the marketing authorization for its chikungunya vaccine, Ixchiq.

The MHRA reached this decision after a further benefit-risk assessment. Valneva stated that the review was based on existing safety data and was not triggered by any new safety signals. The company noted that it had not been actively distributing the vaccine in the UK for several months due to limited sales among travelers.

Valneva confirmed that the revocation does not affect the vaccine’s authorization in the European Union, Canada, Brazil, or other markets. Because the financial and commercial impact is expected to be minimal, the company does not intend to appeal the decision. While the company disagrees with the UK regulator's conclusion, it maintains that the benefit-risk profile of Ixchiq remains favorable.
