Valorugby Emilia signs former Northampton Saints hooker Marco Manfredi

Italian champions Valorugby Emilia have completed a major summer signing, bringing 29‑year‑old hooker Marco Manfredi to the club. Manfredi, born in Germany and raised in Jesolo, previously won the English Premiership with the Northampton Saints and the Italian championship with Calvisano in 2019. His career also includes spells with Benetton, Zebre and a two‑year stint at Montpellier in France, as well as three caps for the Italy national team, including participation in the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Manfredi said he chose Reggio Emilia for its ambitious project, adding that he was attracted by the positive atmosphere and the technical, fast‑paced style of play. He will add his 1.83 m, 110 kg physique and international experience to a squad that will open the season in the Supercoppa. The move is seen as a boost to the club’s front‑row depth ahead of the upcoming United Rugby Championship and domestic contests.
