Valot S.A. cuts over 20 jobs at historic Quilmes cleaning‑products plant

Valot S.A., a long‑standing cleaning‑products manufacturer in the Buenos Aires suburb of Quilmes, announced the dismissal of more than 20 workers in the past two weeks. The company invoked article 247 of the Argentine Labour Contract Law, which permits layoffs due to a lack or reduction of work not attributable to the employer, and offered half‑pay indemnities.

Management cited a sharp decline in demand, falling sales volumes and rising financial costs as the drivers of the adjustment, despite attempts to optimise processes, review purchases and open new commercial channels. A dismissed employee, Nicolás, described the layoff as a "brutal cut" and said the slowdown had been evident for months. He added, "My anger is with the national project that destroys industry," while noting he does not blame the company itself.

The layoffs reflect broader stress in Argentina’s industrial sector, which has seen hundreds of thousands of formal jobs disappear since November.
