Valparaíso authorities face scrutiny over post-fire contracts

Deputy Hotuiti Teao has called for accountability from former Valparaíso regional authorities, including current Deputy Sofía González and former delegate Yanino Riquelme, following a Comptroller General investigation. The investigation concerns irregularities in contracts awarded to the company San Nicolás during the reconstruction efforts after the 2024 mega-fires.

The Comptroller has requested that the former officials face extracontractual civil liability due to potential overpricing in the hiring of machinery and works that were allegedly not properly backed by the companies involved. Teao accused the authorities of negligence and potential complicity in awarding million-dollar contracts to a company that reportedly did not meet requirements and may have been created specifically to secure those contracts.
