Valparaíso Chamber of Commerce proposes national trade council for Chile
The Valparaíso Regional Chamber of Commerce (CRCP) has proposed the creation of an Autonomous National Council for International Trade. This technical, public-private body is intended to coordinate decisions regarding Chile's export capacity, investment attraction, and international market competitiveness.
The initiative is part of a National International Trade and Logistics Strategy presented to President José Antonio Kast. CRCP President Javier Torrejón stated that while Chile has successfully built a wide network of trade agreements, the current challenge is converting that potential into actual exports, investment, and employment.
The proposal aims to reduce decision-making dispersion among various institutions. The Council would be tasked with articulating priorities, identifying infrastructure gaps, and evaluating progress through a national roadmap with measurable goals. The strategy includes five key pillars: expanding the number of exporting companies, diversifying products and markets, adding value to national offerings, and connecting the planning of ports, roads, railways, border crossings, and airports.
