Valparaíso Court upholds sentence for minors in La Calera shooting

The Court of Appeals of Valparaíso has rejected a petition to annul the trial or modify the sentence of two minors under the age of 15. The minors were sentenced for attempted robbery with homicide following an attack on a student, Omar Lazcano Villagra, in La Calera on March 31, 2025.

The victim was shot in the head after the attackers failed to steal his belongings. While the victim has undergone multiple surgeries and is recovering, he faces long-term consequences from the injury. The defense's request to change the sentence from a closed regime to supervised liberty was denied by the court ministers, leaving the original sentence firm.
