Valparaíso expands flu vaccination and emergency medical services
The Servicio de Salud Valparaíso‑San Antonio (SSVSA) operated a free influenza‑vaccination campaign at the Estación Puerto de Valparaíso. The drive, run by the Cesfam Plaza Justicia centre, targeted people over 60, individuals with chronic illnesses and other residents. Director Blanca Farías said taking the vaccine to a high‑traffic location helps reach the community, reduces severe cases and eases pressure on hospitals as part of the 2026 winter health campaign.
The municipality also launched five new mobile emergency units – three motorcycles equipped for pre‑hospital care and two ambulances – to serve the city's hills and remote sectors such as Playa Ancha and Laguna Verde. Mayor Camila Nieto highlighted the faster response to cardiac arrests and accidents, and paramedics will conduct home visits and on‑site examinations. The vehicles were financed by municipal funds, the Corporación Municipal de Valparaíso and regional contributions.
