Valparaíso experiences series of earthquakes

A series of earthquakes occurred off the coasts of Valparaíso and Quintero, Chile, on Sunday afternoon. The National Seismological Center recorded several movements within a two-hour window, including a magnitude 4.5 earthquake located 38 kilometers northwest of Valparaíso at a depth of 22 kilometers. Other notable tremors included a magnitude 4.0 event and a magnitude 4.2 event near Quintero.

Experts, including Marco Cisternas from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, stated that these seismic swarms do not allow for the prediction of a larger earthquake. They noted that such activity is a result of the natural dynamics between the Nazca and South American tectonic plates.
