Valparaíso heritage projects reach key milestones
In Valparaíso, Chile, several heritage restoration projects within the World Heritage Site are progressing. The comprehensive improvement of the Pérgola de las Flores on Cumming Hill has reached 50% completion. This project, funded by the Municipality of Valparaíso and the Subsecretaría de Desarrollo Regional y Administrativo (SUBDERE), involves an investment of over $178 million pesos to renovate the facade, pavements, and public restrooms.
Additionally, conservation works at Castillo San José, also known as the Lord Cochrane Museum, have been completed. The site will serve as a temporary location for the Regional Archive and the offices of the World Heritage Site Administration Corporation. This project is the first of 13 initiatives in the site's management plan and aims to revitalize the neighborhood by providing new public spaces and community areas.
