Valparaíso launches heritage craft innovation initiative

The Municipality of Valparaíso has launched ‘Oficios en Obra: Encuentro de Innovación y Salvaguarda para el Patrimonio de Valparaíso’, an initiative designed to promote and preserve traditional heritage crafts. Funded by the Cultural Heritage Fund, the program aims to strengthen the transmission of knowledge and connect traditional construction trades with modern innovation.

The event is scheduled to take place on October 9, 10, and 11 at the Cultural Park of Valparaíso (Parque Cultural de Valparaíso – Ex Cárcel). The program will feature free activities for the community, including dialogue tables, workshops, live demonstrations, and lectures. The initiative focuses on five key pillars: Tradition and Innovation, Safeguarding and Transmission, Sustainability and Heritage, Gender Approach, and Valparaíso in Progress.

Nicole Galdames, Director of Economic Development and International Cooperation, emphasized that the project seeks to value the city's architectural heritage and create links between traditional masters, academia, and technology to innovate technical practices.
