Valparaíso search continues for remains of Father Miguel Woodward

Efforts continue to locate the remains of Father Miguel Woodward, who was detained in Valparaíso shortly after the 1973 military coup. Woodward died that same month following torture inflicted by personnel from the Chilean Navy. His body was subsequently moved and clandestinely buried in Cemetery No. 3 of Playa Ancha, a method used to make him disappear.

Family members and the Agrupación Amigos de Miguel have spent years searching for his remains, facing an institutional pact of silence regarding his final resting place. On Wednesday, September 23, a new search operation was conducted using georadar technology. This specific investigation targeted an area near an old tree, based on information provided by a witness. Anthropologists from the Legal Medical Service are participating in the technical analysis of the site.
