Valérie Grenier suffers serious knee injury in Sölden

Canadian alpine skier Valérie Grenier sustained a serious right knee injury during a training session on the Rettenbach Glacier in Sölden. The 29-year-old, a three-time World Cup winner, will miss the season-opening giant slalom scheduled for Saturday, October 24.

Following medical examinations in Austria, Grenier decided to return to Canada for surgery, which is scheduled for Friday, October 23. The exact extent of the injury and the expected duration of her recovery will not be determined until after the surgical procedure.

Grenier expressed her distress on social media, stating she was “broken” by the news. This injury follows previous significant setbacks, including a broken tibia and fibula in 2019 and an ACL tear in early 2024.
