Valtournenche approves new hydrogeological risk maps

The Valtournenche City Council has unanimously approved revised hydrogeological risk maps for the territory, specifically impacting the Breuil-Cervinia area. This update follows a program agreement between the Region, the Municipality, and Cervino Spa, prompted by the planning of the new ‘3S The One’ cable car system.

Recent studies indicate that the planned departure station for the 3S system, located near the Marmore stream, is currently in an area classified as non-buildable due to landslide and flood risks. The revision also includes updated analyses of the Fallinère landslide.

Mayor Elisa Cicco has requested that the Region implement a protective embankment (vallo) alongside the construction of the new lift system. This infrastructure is intended to reduce hydrogeological risks and potentially allow for a future reassessment of the area's non-buildable status. The Region has previously allocated 3.8 million euros for soil defense interventions, including hydraulic management of the Marmore stream and debris flow protection near the Breuil-Plan Maison station.
