Valve adds unannounced pet chicken system to Counter-Strike 2

Valve Corporation has introduced a new pet chicken system to Counter-Strike 2, a feature that was not documented in the official patch notes for the September 22, 2026, Rush Hour update. Players discovered the addition after receiving rare Chicken Eggs through their weekly drops.

The Chicken Egg occupies both available reward slots in the weekly care package. Once claimed, the egg appears in the game's main menu and undergoes an incubation period of approximately seven days. After hatching, the egg becomes a chick that players can name, pet, inspect, and feed.

Dataminers and players have identified 35 different visual skin varieties and three distinct real-world chicken breeds. The update also includes a “Hatchbook” feature, allowing players to collect and record photos of their pets. Fully grown chickens can appear in pre-match lobbies to perform animations before moving to a player's profile album.
