Valve ends production of Valve Index VR headset
Valve has officially ended production of the Valve Index, its PC-tethered virtual reality headset system that first launched in 2019. The company announced the decision via a Steam Hardware news post, noting that remaining stock of headsets, controllers, and accessories will be sold at a 20% discount while supplies last.
While the hardware is being phased out, Valve confirmed that existing owners will continue to receive support through Steam and SteamVR. The move follows the recent launch of the Steam Frame, a wireless VR headset designed for both VR and non-VR gameplay.
Discounts apply to various components, including the headset, replacement left controllers, and replacement tethers. However, some items, such as the base stations required for the Index's tracking system, appear to be out of stock or no longer available for purchase through official channels.
