Valve launches Steam Frame wireless VR headset

Valve has officially announced the Steam Frame, a high-end wireless VR headset designed for both standalone play and PC streaming. The device features a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and dual LCD displays with a resolution of 2160 x 2160 per eye, supporting refresh rates up to 144Hz in experimental mode.

Two storage configurations are available: a 256GB model priced at approximately $1,059 USD (or €1,049) and a 1TB model priced at $1,299 USD (or €1,279). Both versions include the game Half-Life: Alyx. To manage high demand and prevent reselling, Valve is implementing a randomized reservation lottery system for pre-orders.

Technical highlights include inside-out tracking, eye tracking for foveated rendering, and a dedicated 6GHz Wi-Fi adapter for low-latency PCVR streaming. While the headset can run over 100 verified games natively via SteamOS, some users have noted that the high price point and the omission of a power supply from the box—which must be purchased separately—are notable drawbacks.
