Valve prepares for Steam Frame VR headset launch

Valve appears to be preparing for the launch of its new Steam Frame VR headset. Recent updates to Steam's internal infrastructure and product package information suggest that a pre-order system may soon be activated.

Dataminer Brad Lynch identified new reservation systems for two distinct hardware SKUs, likely corresponding to 256GB and 1TB internal storage configurations. The device is expected to run on SteamOS powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, utilizing Proton and FEX to support Windows and x86 software.

Technical leaks suggest Valve may offer an optional color passthrough module as an upgrade kit. This module, reportedly produced by Komodo Station, would feature dual 32MP sensors supporting 5K resolution and 10bit HDR, enabling features such as spatial video recording and real-time environment mapping. While a specific release date and price have not been officially confirmed, previous targets suggested a potential window around summer 2026.
