Valve releases SteamOS 3.9.0 preview for Steam Deck

Valve has released a preview version of SteamOS 3.9.0, bringing significant updates to the Steam Deck's operating system. The update includes a major refresh of the desktop environment, upgrading KDE Plasma from version 6.4.3 to 6.7.3 and updating the Linux kernel to version 7.2.

Key functional improvements include enhanced search capabilities via the Krunner tool, a new clipboard feature that allows users to pin frequently used text, and expanded support for drawing tablets. The update also introduces preliminary support for hibernation, though this feature is currently not available through the user interface in Gaming Mode.

Technical enhancements include HDMI 2.1 support, improved Wi-Fi compatibility using the wpa_supplicant backend, and better compatibility for use as a virtual machine with graphics acceleration. As this is an early preview, users can access it via the system update preview channel, though stability issues may occur.
