Valve releases SteamOS 3.9.5 stable update

Valve has released SteamOS 3.9.5 to the stable channel for all users. The update includes an updated Arch Linux base and upgrades the Desktop Mode environment from KDE Plasma 6.4.3 to Plasma 6.7.3.

Key technical improvements include a rebased kernel and a change in the default WiFi backend to wpa_supplicant, which aims to improve compatibility with various networks and enable faster WiFi reconnection when resuming from sleep. The update also addresses power consumption on the Steam Deck by improving idle efficiency when no audio is playing.

Hardware-specific fixes cover a wide range of devices, including the Steam Deck, Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Legion Go 2. Notable fixes include resolving system crashes on the Legion Go 2, adding preliminary brightness control support for that device, and addressing issues where certain games failed to run on recent Intel Panther Lake CPUs. Additionally, the update resolves bugs related to Steam Remote Play, frame limiter behavior in VR titles, and various display and audio issues across supported hardware.
