Valve updates Proton Experimental and expands SteamOS utility

Valve has released an update to Proton Experimental, aimed at improving gaming performance on Linux, SteamOS, and the Steam Deck. The update includes bug fixes for several titles, such as Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Company of Heroes 3, and Arma 3, while also making games like City Car Driving and IL-2 Series playable.

Separately, SteamOS, which is built on the Arch Linux framework, is being utilized by users for general desktop computing. While the operating system is optimized for gaming through a dedicated ‘Game Mode’ and performs best with AMD GPUs, it can be adapted for daily tasks like web browsing using Flatpaks. However, users may encounter technical challenges when switching between modes or using non-AMD hardware.
