Valve updates SteamVR and reveals Steam Frame compatibility data
Valve has released a significant update to SteamVR, introducing several new features that may prepare the software for the upcoming Steam Frame release. The update includes a Quick Access Menu, similar to the Steam Deck interface, which allows users to manage brightness, volume, notifications, and battery status without exiting their games. Users can also now access achievements, community guides, and notes directly within the VR environment. Additionally, Valve has implemented improvements to streaming quality and latency.
Regarding the Steam Frame hardware, Valve has not provided an official release date or pricing, despite previous delays attributed to a RAM crisis. While tutorial videos for the device have appeared online, official communication remains limited.
In terms of software compatibility, Valve’s metadata reveals that 23 games currently sit in the second tier of compatibility for the Steam Frame. While 126 of the 130 certified games meet all performance and configuration standards, the Playable tier contains games with various issues. The most frequent problem is 'TextInputDoesNotAutomaticallyInvokesKeyboard', where games fail to trigger the on-screen keyboard for text entry. Other issues in this tier include non-functional controller configurations, performance problems, and illegible interface text.
