Valve working on Nvidia support for SteamOS

Valve is working to integrate Nvidia graphics cards more seamlessly into SteamOS, the Linux-based operating system used by devices such as the Steam Deck. Developer Pierre-Loup Griffais confirmed in an interview with IGN that improving Nvidia support is a top priority for the company.

While AMD hardware has traditionally been the reliable choice for SteamOS, Nvidia cards have faced difficulties achieving optimal performance on the platform. Although drivers have already been integrated to improve functionality for certain cards, Griffais noted that the work is highly complex and could take years to fully realize.

This development is significant as Steam hardware surveys indicate that 73 percent of Steam users own Nvidia graphics cards. Improved compatibility could provide a viable alternative for gamers looking to move away from Windows, particularly as support for Windows 10 reaches its end of life.
