Valverde, Sicily: Funding approved for road and landslide safety works

The Sicilian Regional Government has funded a project to secure the southern slope of Valverde in the province of Catania. The initiative, managed by the Structure for Combating Hydrogeological Instability, aims to protect public safety and mitigate landslide risks.

The project includes the construction of a 343-meter road link between via Leonardo Sciascia and via Alessandro Manzoni, located below the Padre Gabriele Maria Allegra school complex. This new infrastructure is designed to improve traffic flow for residents and students while serving as a critical emergency escape route.

To address hydraulic risks and erosion, the works will feature a 182-meter drainage trench along the western sector of the school area to manage rainwater runoff. A tender for the €640,000 project has been published, with a deadline for bids set for December 1.
